I've been wondering. You have to tap bricks to get in, but Hermione is muggle born so neither of her parents had a wand.

Yeah, I've been at the other side of the moon (unfortunately not the other side of JK's mind)for the answer to that one. Maybe she got instructions in her letter. Then she went to London and asked someone in the leaky couldron to help her out. Harry's didn't have any because Hagrid was there to help him out. Maybe McG. didn't write in his letter to save ink! Heheh

It was probably explained to Hermione in her letter, and the same thing was probably said in all of Harry's leters as well, except for the one which Hagrid personally delivered to him. Maybe Minerva thought it was unnecessary to say, as Hagrid was to take him to Diagon Alley anyway.

I personally think that it was all explained in a letter, including on how she can get onto the Hogwarts Express. What I want to know is how her parents can see Diagon Alley - they're muggles. I mean, I know that since Hermione is a wizard, her parents could probably see it too. But do you think they're brainwashed after they've visit Diagon Alley? They couldn't keep the secret forever, could they?
BTW, I'm Nadirah from Cinescape. Hi, all. ^_^

I don't think her parents are brain-washed, only people to whom they might let it slip that Hermione goes to Hogwarts. AFter all, they have to know where their daughter goes all year.

Instructions may have been sent. And when Hermione turned the corner, she was a witch so saw the sign, Leaky Cualdron, and could enter, therefore letting her parents enter. Then they could of asked for help. Harry, well JKR must of made a mistake... but hey... all good authors do that!

I don't think she really made a mistake. She probably just wasn't expecting people to disect every single idea and event that happens. lol! I doubt she even noticed it herself.

That rule may not have been set up yet. its even possible they made that rule bcuz of somethin Lily (or more likely James or Sirius) did over summer vacation. hmmm but i think hermione and all other muggle-borns are given instructions. in fact it, in the letter mcgonagall says harry has to send an owl. hagrid sent an owl for harry, so he didnt have to worry about it. but for the others they would have probably received owls giving them instructions on everything
